Sons of Anarchy – Who’s going to still be alive in season 5?

Are we all in agreement that there's going to be some major bloodshed on 'Sons of Anarchy' soon? Let's take bets on who's going to bite the dust first.

- Season 4, Episode 5 - "Brick"

We’ve learned over the first three seasons of Sons of Anarchy that being affiliated with SAMCRO isn’t exactly the greatest way to ensure a long and happy life. This fact is becoming ever clearer as we get into season 4. While there isn’t nearly as much violence so far as there was in season 3, everyone seems to be in much greater peril.

Here’s who looks like they may not make it to next season, in order of likelihood from “let’s start writing your obituary” to “let’s just cancel the show because WHAT’S THE POINT?”

Juice

I’m just going to have to take their word for this. I know that motorcycle clubs in general live by antiquated rules and standards (just look at the way women are treated), but even so, I have a really difficult time believing that things are going to be that bad for Juice if the club finds out that he’s half black. I particularly can’t imagine Jax and Opie giving a shit. So I’m having a difficult time believing that the fear of the club finding this out is enough to drive Juice to be stupid enough to steal a brick of coke. Because we all know that stealing something worth that much money is a surefire way to get your ass shot.

Bobby

He was sleeping with Luanne right before she was murdered. He may not have been the one who killed her, but he was still bedding a brother’s woman while he’s rotting away in prison. Otto knows about Bobby’s betrayal and hasn’t killed him yet, but Bobby further complicates matters in this episode by lying to Otto. Sure, Bobby figures that Otto won’t hear the truth, as he’s in prison, but Otto has proven himself to be quite resourceful. He’s also proven himself to be completely loyal to SAMCRO, often at a great personal sacrifice. Bobby, on the other hand, has been butting heads with Clay… and we all know what happens when you don’t get on board with Clay’s plans.

Clay

I’ve already speculated that Clay isn’t long for this world, and I believe it more and more each week. Jax has had a difficult relationship with his stepfather since the beginning of the show. Not only that, but Jax is also a boy who misses his father and carries a lot of John Teller around inside of him. If he finds out that not only was his father’s death not an accident, but Clay killed him because he didn’t want to stop running guns? Clay’s got about two seconds before he finds a bullet right between his eyes.

Tara

This one would actually be shocking, as Tara and Jax’s sweet/twisted love story has been at the heart of the show since the very beginning. However, she’s crossing Gemma and Clay right now, and that’s not a smart position for anyone to be in. Plus, if I’m sticking by my theory that this season is going to be a complete game-changer, then Jax losing the love of his life and becoming a single father to two small children would certainly accomplish that.

Gemma

Okay, not in a million years. I’m definitely not saying that just because she’s Kurt Sutter‘s wife, either. While one can certainly make the creative argument that Jax finding out that Gemma was (at best) complicit in JT’s and becoming so enraged that he commits matricide, would make for good television, this is Gemma Fucking Teller we’re talking about. Even though she’s a fictional character, I’m still relatively certain that if you kill her, she will come back and haunt all of our asses. Besides; a good 20 minutes of each episode is just Gemma staring at people, eating away at their souls. If you don’t have that, then what do you have?

I think that juice is most likely to die but I think Tara is the next one on the block and far more likely than Clay. She is the Ophelia of the piece after all. Her death would be suitably tragic and spur jax on to do what he needs to do. I don’t think Jax will find out about the murder of his father till the last season. I also think they need to end the show next season because they can’t keep dragging out that plot point much longer without annoying their audience.

Kurt Sutter has said that he’s planning for 7 seasons, so we have a few more years to go yet. Plus, with the way ratings have jumped this season, I can see it happening. That’s part of the reason why I think SAMCRO is going to get blown apart this season and we’re going to have a much different show starting in season 5.

7 seasons? yikes. I’m not sure I will be sticking around for all 7 then, because I really don’t see how you can stretch out this narrative for that long without it falling apart.

I have thought that the conflict between Jax and Clay was going to come to a head for 4 seasons now (including this one) but they keep pulling the rug out before it can happen. Jax gets right up the the edge of finding out the truth and challenging Clay but then backs off…for some reason, at the last minute.

the cliffhanger from season one was resolved with a big dud in season two and I was worried about the show. They have pulled something similar every season since. so far they have been able to win me back fairly quickly, but that won’t work forever. I really don’t want this show to overstay it’s welcome because I like it so much. I fell off of The Shield a couple seasons before the end for the same reasons.

What about Piney? I think Clay is going to take him out soon, and his death will be what finally convinces Tara to show Jax the letters.

Juice’s situation worries me because so many people saw him in that storage area. If Clay kills Piney, he could make it look natural, after all he was just in the hospital and walks around with an oxygen tank. Tara will know the truth though.
The one I really felt for last night was Wayne Unser. Seeing the realization come over his face when he realized that he covered up Teller’s murder not knowing the full story from Clay and Gemma was a little heartbreaking. Then also to have the doubt in his head that maybe Gemma was playing him a little all these years. He clearly has always had a thing for her as Clay so cruelly mentioned. I think he is going to realign himself against Gemma to protect Tara.
