30 Rock – Dingbat!

Kenneth's new job as a network censor started causing problems for Liz as the most offensive word that was allowed on TGS was dingbat.

- Season 6, Episode 10 - "Standards and Practices"

Kenneth’s new job at standards and practices took center stage in this week’s 30 Rock. I don’t think it comes as a shock to any viewer that Kenneth clashed with the crew at TGS as he ascended the ranks of TV censor. After all, did you really expect Kenneth to just stand by and watch a show with a sketch named Fart Doctor? How crass.

It’s just like Kenneth to end up crying in the bathroom. So much like him, in fact, that I’m a little shocked that it’s the first time that we’ve seen him do it. I was giggling through the entire scene with Liz in the stall beside him, pretending to be “Kenneth Toilethole” (as she struggled to come up with a fake name). I was glad we were treated to the ill advised dinner that Liz suggested between herself and the two Kenneths at the very end of the episode. Kenneth’s moment of glory live bleeping Tracy’s filthy stand up act was also a great moment.

One of the B plots this week focused on Jenna and the discovery of her six grown children from when she donated some eggs in her youth. It was a bizarre plot to be sure, but enjoyable. I liked seeing all the little Jenna clones and it was nice seeing Jenna given a taste of her own shallow materialistic medicine. I’m curious to see if Judy will show up again later on down the line.

She may have to wait an entire season, though, as that seems to be becoming a trend. Last week, Susan Sarandon returned to the show after a brief appearance last season and this week Chloe Moretz returned as Jack’s teenaged nemesis, Kaylie Hooper. I enjoyed her in the first episode in which she appeared and I enjoyed her again tonight. She’s no Devin Banks, but she’s still good for a laugh.

Quotes:

“None of these little condom accidents could actually make me cry, so I’m gonna rub this under my eyes to help me fake it. It’s an old acting trick I learned from Glenn Beck’s prostitute.” — Jenna

“Jack vs Kaylie round 2, colon, no subtitle necessary.” — Jack

“I misread my calendar. Tomorrow is my colonoscopy. Today was my meeting with Colin O’Scopy.” — Tracy

“My brain is working over time. I finally understand the end of The Sixth Sense; those names are the people who worked on the movie!” — Tracy
