New Girl – The all kid episode

I give the 'New Girl' writers their chops. Nothing satisfies as much as when they pull out a frantic story that cruises along with all thrusters thrusting smoothly.

- Season 1, Episode 21 - "Kids"

Let’s see: April 17th … brand new New Girl called “Kids.”

Checking last week’s episode, I see things were relatively calm, cool and collected. And that can only mean one thing: I better grab on to the armrests and make certain my seat belt’s fastened, because this one’s gonna be a doozy.

And it didn’t disappoint:

  • Jeanne Tripplehorn (Big Love) as Russell’s ex-wife Ooly. *swoon*
  • Annalise Basso as Sara, Russell’s daughter, couldn’t have been better: “Are you in love with my dad? Do you and my dad ever ‘dry lump?’ Is sexting cool? Have you ever done a 99? Have you ever given a person ‘plow chops?’ How do you make love to a person ‘animal style’?” The bra scene was classic.
  • Phil Hendrie was his usual frantic self. Nice to see him “warming up” to Wilson and, in a manner of speaking, vice versa.
  • We got some real, live acting out of Hannah Simone (Cece). Not to say we haven’t before … we just saw more of her range.
  • When Schmidt switches gears and morphs into a “caring” mode, you always take notice of it. In the case with he and Cece at the table discussing naming “the baby,” the proper names he was coming up with were comical in light of the looks on Cece’s face.
  • Nick has got to get it together and get over this “young girl fling” he’s on, otherwise he’s going to wind up in trouble.

I love when the writers are come up with a ruckus of an episode, filled with story and hyper-situtations, and all of it makes sense.

Quotes:

“You’re using birth control, right?” — Jess
“Yeah … of course. It’s just that Schmidt gets so athletic that birth control becomes, like, one of those plastic BBQ covers in a hurricane …” — Cece
“I didn’t want to know that …” — Jess

“Congratulations. You’re dating a girl with basic table manners. You win. Why don’t you get on her health care plan?” — Jess to Nick about his girlfriend Chloe (Chloe Bridges)

“We could have a Russian nesting doll situation on our hands.” — Schmidt to Cece as he mentions he needs to do research so that he doesn’t accidentally impregnate the baby

“Bye, Ooly. You rulie.” — Jess to Ooly
“Bye Jess. You’re a mess.” — Ooly

When Ooly, Jeanne Tripplehorn, was calling Russell her husband, I said to myself..uh ohhhh..she wants to add Jess as a sister wife!!!

. . . . .

That’s pretty funny, Toni.

However, you and I both know Jess would make the worst sister wife ever.

Ever.

Ever.

The whole exchange where they figure out that not only did Nick’s girlfriend ride the same schoolbus as Russell’s daughter but Jess even subbed as one of her teachers was awesome …

Girl gets everything wrong. It is not “dry lumping”, but “dry humping”. Same was the 99 which is 69. Only one thing … I have no idea what “plow chop” is.
