30 Rock – Never accept flowers from Mickey Rourke

Things on '30 Rock' look like they may be heading for an ending. Liz is finally in a happy relationship and thinking about kids again. Could this really be happening?

- Season 6, Episode 17 - "Murphy Brown Lied to Us"

Rumors this week indicated that next season may be the last for 3o Rock. As a long time admirer of the show,  you may think I would be upset by this news. If it does turn out to be true, I don’t think I’ll be that upset. I generally believe that sitcoms should tend toward shorter runs, and seven seasons is hardly a short run. As it stands, things feel like they are heading toward an ending. Liz continues to be in a happy, committed relationship (bizarre), and she even talked about kids in tonight’s episode.

The longer Criss and Liz stay together, the happier I am for the characters. I certainly didn’t think it was going to last, but it’s nice to see Liz in a relationship. They do seem like a great match. Can you picture anyone else pretending to be in a gay porn flick with Liz or watching Mythbusters and then having sex? They were even on the same page when it came to babies at the end of the episode. Color me optimistic for their future.

While Liz’s relationship took center stage this week, we did get a couple good B plots. I very much enjoyed Jenna’s faked celebrity breakdown (which is the new sex tape when it comes to getting attention and media coverage!). I’m glad it ended with her reuniting with Paul, because those two were definitely made for each other. It also taught us an important lesson: never accept flowers from Mickey Rourke. Also, am I crazy or did Tracy refer to Jenna as “Jane” while at the hospital? Was that a slip up? Something intentional that I missed? Did he just call her “J?”

I also enjoyed the horrible Kabletown couches. It was a brilliant idea on Jack’s part (not to mention a sad commentary on the American economy). The big news that came out of the couches, though, was the capture of a spy and interrogation on one of them. It looks like Avery may be coming home! We’ll see if Elizabeth Banks shows up next week on the big live episode!

Quotes:

“It is unfortunate. The design forces the sitter into what Israeli military interrogators call a stress position.” — Jack, on the new Kabletown couches

“You look like a substitute teacher who just got her one year AA chip.” — Jack, to Liz

“Well, it’s hard to force a nickname. I tried to get my high school tennis team to call me Ace, but they wanted to call me Shorts Accident … so, we settled on Super Virgin.” — Liz

I think it may have been intentional when Tracy said he never makes mistakes then called her Jane.

Yeah, that was how I saw it too.

Yep that’s what I heard. “I wouldn’t know how that feels because I’ve never made a mistake Jane…”

Didn’t Tracy call her Jay Mohr, who’s a Tracy Morgan impersonnator ? If yes, this is a great reference, because Jay’s imitation is reaaally good.
