Royal Pains returns with a bang!

It's summer time, folks! USA's medical hit 'Royal Pains' returned with a killer season premiere! Seriously -- someone may have died at the end of the episode. Intrigued? I bet you are!

- Season 4, Episode 1 - "After the Fireworks"

Royal Pains returns with a bang!

You know, I never could stand long hiatuses from televisions shows. I’ve always found them to be cruel and unusual punishment. To that end, I’m sure you can imagine my excitement at the return of USA’s smash medical hit Royal Pains. Sheesh — now that’s a good show! Guys, believe me when I say that I was going through withdrawal. Luckily, last night’s episode ended that.

And oh, what an episode it was.

Surprisingly, there was no mention of Jack’s death from the season three finale … or at least, I don’t recall. Instead it was full steam ahead with brand new storylines and plots. For starters, Hank and Evan’s relationship continued to deteriorate. I think it’s rather sad that Evan is using Divya’s shares as leverage to secure HankMed. I mean, seriously — what’s the point of having HankMed without Hank himself? While it was interesting watching the two brothers argue, I’d much rather prefer them in each other’s good graces. After all, that’s what brotherhood is all about, right? The scene where Hank told Evan that he was happy that Evan was able to achieve his new success without him around was a little bittersweet.

If you ask me, it’s kind of like Evan just had to let his big brother know what he could do on his own, and once Hank congratulated him, it seemed as though Evan wasn’t as elated as he thought he’d be to have his brother’s approval. Maybe I’m looking too much into it. I’d love your opinions on that particular scene.

Elsewhere, Divya discovered that Raj’s wife was pregnant. Son of a — oops. Let me compose myself. Give me a second.

Alright. I’m better. Anyway, it was also cool to see Divya trying to connect with her mother. That was a nice touch. I’m sure you already know that I think the show really benefits from having beautiful actress Reshma Shetty onboard. That chick is awesome! On the medical front, Divya had quite an interesting case to deal with involving a woman with a knack for being able to effectively overeat … all the while exuding stroke-like symptoms. I swear, sometimes I wonder if some of these medical cases can happen in real life. I guess I’ll just make like Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston and just go with it. Zinger! Pow!

Also, how awesome was it to see Jill get some decent screen time? Anyone who keeps up with my Royal Pains reviews knows that I think this particular character is severely underutilized. Now it seems she’s being written off the show. Jill told Hank that she’s moving. Does that mean she’s leaving Royal Pains? Hmm …

Ladies and gentlemen, it seems we have some questions to ponder. For starters, how is the new HankMed going to work out with the arrogant Dr. Van Dyke being hired as Hank’s replacement? Will Hank and Evan resolve their differences? How will Hank be able to bring in clientele without his baby brother around to help him? And was anyone harmed in that fireworks incident at the end of the episode? Feel free to sound off in the comments below!

Agreed, it was cool seeing alot of Jill Flint for a change. I’m probably not going to watch after she leaves the show, but whatever. The other characters are too self-righteous and pompus. Excited and hope to see more of Jill elsewhere, she was good on CSI:Miami and very hot on The Good Wife like alot of other people have mentioned.

No, don’t stop watching, Roger. I’d like to see more Jill too to be honest. However, I like the other characters as much as I like her too.

What is the song in this episode with the lyrics, “It’s a beautiful day, I’ve been walking along this long road. What would, what would you say if I took you along.”. It is in the first half of the episode.

It’s called “It’s a Beautiful Day (If I Took You Along)” by Jack Dolgen. It’s on his new album “Wandering Times” scheduled to be released August 7th.
