Royal Pains - Henry Winkler returns!

Well, I guess it’s safe to say that the writers on Royal Pains don’t necessarily believe in dwelling on the past. After last week’s episode, a bittersweet installment featuring the departure of actress Jill Flint, this week simply kept things moving forward with the return of not one, but two familiar faces. Joining in on the fun was the capable Henry Winkler, back as quirky Eddie Lawson.

I really did enjoy seeing Eddie interact with Hank and Evan, who were still at odds, but I especially enjoyed his scenes with Divya. I liked the chemistry that they seemed to have, though I couldn’t help but wonder what exactly was accomplished by Eddie’s return. Don’t get me wrong; I liked seeing him again, but he didn’t really reunite the boys, did he? They kind of put their own differences aside and made up — and thank goodness for that. Judging by how some of the fans have been complaining about the feud between the Lawson brothers, I’d say that the reunion was definitely in order.

I may be in the minority here, but I liked seeing Hank and Evan at odds. It was good tension and a way to shake things up in a show that is in its fourth year. Nevertheless, I’m relieved by the fact that the feud is over. I like seeing the brothers working together and I got a kick out of seeing Evan chase Hank around in the “haunted” garage. I was hoping to get a scene where they could have hugged and made up like loving brothers, but I guess I’ll work with the mini-reunion that we were treated to.

Speaking of reunions, I liked seeing Divya and her mother reunite. I did feel that Divya’s particular subplot was a bit out of place with everything else that was going on, but I do like the fact that the writers are striving to keep Reshma Shetty busy. It’s common knowledge that I think Shetty is awesome. Here’s hoping that Divya and her mother continue to grow closer, and that she can win her father over.

On the medical front, the cases were a bit hum-drum. However, I liked the zombie aspects and the creepy old geezer that was feeding his dog his food without his granddaughter’s knowledge. Did anyone notice how the color would change whenever the show would cut to his bizarre scenes? That was a nice sinister touch.

We have a two-week break until the next episode of Royal Pains. Until then, we really only have one big thing to ponder: the cliffhanger featuring the man that was shot by Boris. Who is he? What did he want? Why didn’t Boris want Hank to check him out? It’s nice seeing Campbell Scott back in the Hamptons — and in the new credits it seems … along with Brooke D’Orsay. Did anyone notice that? It seems Jill is gone for good. Sound off in the comments below!
