The Big Bang Theory – The Codpiece Topology

CBS

CBS

(Season 2, Episode 2)

Poor Leonard. We all know the aftermath of his date with Penny. How’s he coping? Leslie … but is she even really a girl? And what about Penny’s new flame? But, most of all, what has Sheldon done lately? My full review of the show is after the jump!

For me, it’s Jim Parsons as Sheldon who makes the show. It’s like the role was custom made for him. He has the mannerisms down pat and can rattle off the … um, lots of really big words. Tonight saw the return of his nemesis, Leslie Kinkle (played by Sara Gilbert). She’s a female Sheldon who doesn’t carry it off quite as well as he does. But, while others tend to avoid or humor Sheldon when he gets in a thorny snit, she loves to antagonize him. And, what’s worse is that she’s Leonard’s rebound relationship.

Yep, his date with Penny all went awry. That’s was mostly due to Sheldon, of course. Although he has no interest in women or relationships outside his little science and gaming geek friends, he certainly likes to butt in when Leonard might possibly actually find a girlfriend. Sure, Penny is out of Leonard’s league and Leslie is just way too female Sheldon. But someday his princess may come. I’m sure Sheldon will find a way to alienate her somehow.

I figured Leslie would just use Leonard for “stress relief” – S.E.X. – once again. But she was seriously considering the big picture. Run, Leonard! Run as fast as you can! Oh wait. You have Sheldon to muck up your affairs, don’t you? Now, Leslie could overlook male baldness pattern and lactose intolerance running in his genes. However, when he agreed with a theory (which I’ll readily admit was way over my head) of Sheldon’s instead of her … zoom, out the door!

A few other bits I found nifty:

  • Sheldon with his old Nintendo 64 hooked up in the hallway, first having an actual talk with Penny, then roughing up Mario.
  • The Renaissance Fair costumes.
  • Sheldon attending the Renaissance Fair at the end of the show as Spock reporting all the discrepancies he found.

Very good ep tonight. Sheldon realizing how many supervillains have advanced degrees and wondering why graduate schools aren’t more careful about who they let in still has me laughing. And he looked awesome as Spock.

I’m so happy you are writing about this show. The whole cast just slays me. Remember, Leslie could also overlook their children never getting a good view of a parade, along with Leonard’s other ‘shortcomings’. She had some good lines!

wouldn’t be a comments section without the nit-picking. It’s Leslie Winkle, with a W.

and this was a very good episode, with many quotable lines. And the look on Sheldon’s face when the idea was floated that he could attend the Renaissance Fair as Spock was perfect.

and don’t forget Rajnesh’s unfortunate love connection!
