Would you want to work for Michael Scott or Ted Mosby?

featured

tedmosbyWatching How I Met Your Mother last week, and the ridiculous romp of Ted Mosby, self-employed architect of Mosbius Designs, all I could think about was The Office‘s Michael Scott, newly self-employed paper vendor. You know, the Michael Scott Paper Company; surely you’ve heard of it.

Well, both new companies have been equally entertaining to watch get off the ground. In fact, they both have employees (well, maybe not Mosbius anymore) so they can’t be doing so bad, right?

I got to thinking, in an absurd moment, about who I’d rather work for: Mosbius Designs or The Michael Scott Paper Company. It would be a really hard decision, but something tells me I can make the call…

Mosbius Designs has a better bathroom.
Yes, its headquarters is in Ted’s apartment, but it’s got a real bathroom with a shower for after those lunchtime workouts. Yes, there’s soon to be a goat there, but I can work with a goat; I’m flexible. At The Michael Scott Paper Company, my desk could be in a shower, and that’s just not right.

Michael Scott actually has a client or two.
One thing Michael’s not afraid of, now that he’s settled, that is, is soliciting clients. He’s actually got quite a competition going with Dwight Schrute, and honestly, Michael’s more professional about it. Man, the guy seems like a complete bumbling idiot 98 percent of the time, but he really can schmooze with the best of the salesmen. Clients mean income and income means a paycheck for me, so I’m liking The Michael Scott Paper Company. Ted’s afraid to even call clients, so Mosbius Designs makes me very nervous.

Mosbius Designs has more growth potential.
Architecture is cool, and in such a small company I’d probably be given a lot of responsibility. Maybe I could even decorate the interiors of some of Ted’s designs; now that would be fun. I feel like Ted is so disorganized about running his company that I’d get the chance to be a front man while Ted just works on his designs. I’d make him pay for my services accordingly, of course. At The Michael Scott Paper Company, I could do paperwork or sales. Blech. There’s nowhere else to go.

The Michael Scott Paper Company has other employees.
I could have lunch with Pam, collaborate on a project with Ryan, and get really good at catching cheese puffs in my mouth. I don’t want to sleep with Robin, so the social aspect of Mobius Designs isn’t working for me.

They’ll both whine about their love lives.
Can I really work for either of these men? Ted is such a loser, constantly searching for his soulmate and trying to make every girl he kisses into her. Michael mopes about Holly and can’t seem to have a healthy relationship with anyone.

Hrmmm… we have a tie. How nice for me to have two employment opportunities in this economy. Now, to make my choice…

Professionalism wins it.
Lack of self-esteem aside, I think Ted is actually good at what he does. There’s a niche for crazy architects, I’m sure of it. I believe in Ted and would like to be his wingman. Michael? Not so much. He’s going to do something to screw it up, but I really think Ted will build safe, attractive buildings. I want to work for Ted Mosby… even if his website is lame.

At least if you work for Mosbius Designs you are living in NYC, not Scranton. And you have a good shot at sleeping with Robin just by being in her apartment.

I’d work for Ted just so I might meet that awesome guy, Barney.

Ted is awesome, and Michael is annoying. No contest. Plus Ted knows what he’s doing and Michael has no clue. Building buildings in NY vs pushing paper in Scranton? Please.

Option 3: BARNEY STINSON.

Gotta go with Ted on this one. Three reasons…

1. Michael wakes up his employees at 5 a.m. No thank you.
2. Not enough room for 4 people in Michael’s new office.
3. Ted has a bar right under his office, it’s go time
4. Everyone who works for Mosbius has slept with Robin.

Therefore Mosbius Designs wins, hands down. Good topic by the way.
