(Season 2, Episodes 1-3)
I’m well into season 2 of Six Feet Under now, and the new season has brought… well, it has brought a lot of the charm and quirk of season 1. Honestly, the transition was very smooth.
Billy is still out of the picture, but I’m can’t say I’m missing him. Claire continues to struggle through the doldrums and complicated relationships of high school, Ruth is still trying to find herself, David continues to flounder with his love life, and Nate is struggling with his brain disease. It’s been an interesting beginning of the season, and I’m looking forward to where it is going…
“In The Game”
This was a fun episode to start the season, highlighted by an awkward dinner party with the Fishers and their significant others, all while Nate was high on ecstasy. The other big happening in the episode was Nate finding out about his condition, AVM. I think that his sickness is going to drive a lot of the action this season. I’m looking forward to seeing how he is going to cope with death knocking on his door.
“Out, Out Brief Candle”
Kroehner just isn’t going away. I think it’s slightly odd that there is a clear cut villain in a show about a funeral home, but it works. This episode featured Mitzy Huntley pulling a fast one on the Fishers, buying the casket company that the brothers just purchased a display wall from, essentially putting the Fishers to work for her. She’s a larger than life character and a lot of fun; I hope we get to see more of her.
Poor Rico seems to take a lot of crap from the Fishers. I know he was miserable at Kroehner, but it’s sometimes hard to watch the way that David treats him. In this episode he was looking to get a loan from the Fishers in order to put a down payment on a new home. I do think it’s slightly inappropriate for him to ask, but as he said the Fishers consider him family, but only when it’s convenient.
“The Plan”
It’s been a little scary watching Claire in her relationship with Gabe. He’s clearly unwell, and I don’t think Claire will be able to save him. It’s all a little sad, and I really feel bad for Claire, who doesn’t have a lot of stable people in her life.
What can I say about The Plan? I think it perfectly describes Ruth’s state of mind, but boy is it goofy. That’s the point, though, I suppose. I think it’s going to be fun watching Ruth go through this program and further come out of her shell.
Great stuff, but it’s Rico. Frederico. Not Francisco.
*POST AUTHOR*
Shame on me. I fixed it, thanks. I’ve had trouble with his name since starting the show… and I’m really not sure why. Actually, I think it’s because I recently read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, and one of the main characters was named Francisco.
