(Season 2: Episodes 7-10)
I’ve openly wondered about what Nate and Brenda see in each other (and was quickly reminded that their relationship seems to be solely based on sex). Now, as they are set to get married, it’s becoming more and more clear to me that these two people really have nothing in common and are an absolute horrible match. This is why I loved when Billy looked at the both of them after they told him they were going to get married and said: “I love it when two people who really should get married, do get married.” Nothing could be further from the truth when it comes to Nate and Brenda.
“Back to the Garden”
As a die hard Deadwood fan, I enjoyed seeing Molly Parker as a local rabbi in this episode. I wonder if we’ll be seeing her again, as there was a definite spark between her and Nate. Basically, at this point, I’m looking for anyone to come between him and Brenda.
The other highlight for me in this episode was Ruth inviting Robbie for dinner. As he sat across from her running his mouth all she could think about was making him shut up. It was a great moment for me, and seemed to snap Ruth out of “The Plan” way of thinking.
“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”
Another episode, another Deadwood vet, this time it was W. Earl Brown playing one of the bikers at the Christmas Day funeral. Can this show actually compete with Lost for most actors appearing from Deadwood? Only time will tell… Well, time and IMDb, but I’m not ambitious enough to look it up and figure it out.
I’m starting to think that Brenda may be more mentally unstable than her clinically unstable brother. I certainly hope that she can keep her, um… I want to say whore-ish tendencies, but I don’t think that would be very sensitive of me, so I’ll go with “urges.” I certainly hope she can keep her urges at bay. Although maybe I don’t, because they’ll probably catch up with her and end her relationship with Nate.
“Someone Else’s Eyes”
I never thought Keith would be annoying me so much, but his character has gone from stable and sensible to erratic and over emotional. Clearly, the situations in his life are getting to him, including his shooting and killing a man while on duty, as well as his drugged up sister and her daughter.
Well, if Brenda’s behavior doesn’t squash the impending wedding, it looks like Nate’s unborn baby (with Lisa) may do the trick. Although, it would appear that Lisa wants absolutely nothing to do with Nate, and it’s a little hard to blame her.
“The Secret”
I think Claire really is my favorite character. She struggles so much to do something meaningful. In this episode she poured herself into a project, writing poems for several of the deceased who went through Fisher & Sons, including photographs. It really meant something to her, and it was crapped upon by her English teacher (who wanted a standard paper) and Nate (who was concerned about litigation from the families of the photographed bodies).
Brenda’s behavior continues to escalate in stupidity and danger. I loved the scene between her and the therapist, where she, literally, heard what she wanted to. Nate deserves better.
Not ? but rather !
I never got that relationship either but in the end…
Yikes.
Nearly spoiled the series finale. Phew :-)
If you told him how next season and on goes I’m not sure he would even believe you. :)
