Last week, I mentioned that we were getting a darker side of The Vampire Diaries, and it was all good. This week, they’ve teased us with much, more more intrigue and conspiracy … and I’ve got a juicy tidbit regarding the mythology of the series that hasn’t been shared with the viewers yet … or has it?
On her Twitter account, Julie Plec mentioned that the promo for this week’s episode revealed a huge spoiler because a cut scene was included in the promo:
“A semi-spoiler. The promo for tonight’s episode is built around two scenes that were cut from the show. So people are getting a sneak peek” “At some mythology that we decided to hold back on until later — and apparently the promo dept didn’t realize it in time!”
Here’s the promo:
It looks to me like the cat they didn’t want out of the bag quite yet is the fact that they were at the party with the people who killed Katherine. It seems pretty obvious from the last scene in tonight’s episode that those people are Caroline’s mother (hey, Marguerite MacIntyre, looks like a meatier role for you than Kyle XY‘s mom), the mayor and his wife and Logan the reporter.
Now, 150 years have passed, so I’m thinking either they are all vampires too, or have some sort of witch mojo like Bonnie’s ancestors, or they are simply the ancestors of the people who killed Katherine. Probably this isn’t a spoiler to those of you who’ve read the books, but I thought it was very cool, and solidifies the fact that there’s a lot more to The Vampire Diaries than just a sappy inter-species love story. Take that, to those who think The Vampire Diaries is a soap opera.
I’ve got to admit, though, I really enjoyed the teenage angst stuff tonight … perhaps I’m just in a better mood than a few weeks ago, or maybe now that I know the payoff looks to be better I can just enjoy the lighter parts of the show more, like:
And dudes, they locked up Damon … boy, is he going to be pissed. I can’t wait to see that!
What do you think — are you liking where the series is going?
