Project Runway – Grab your tissues

Wow, what an emotional episode. I was excited when I heard they were doing the "design your own fabric" challenge again, but I didn't expect it to be such an emotional one.

- Season 8, Episode 10 - "There's a Pattern Here"

Using themselves and their history as their muse made the challenge. And, I’ll admit, I cried a bit or more than a bit when Mondo told his story and then when their families walked in the room. And even more so when Mondo bared his soul talking about his inspiration on the runway. I wasn’t sure if he was going to do it or not, but I am so glad that he finally was able to unburden himself of his secret.

Regarding the fashions, there was a lot of bleh on the runway tonight. Overall, “bleh” has been the term of the season for me; the fashions haven’t been that impressive overall. Every other season, by this time in the show, I had three or four favorites for the finale. I had designers that I would fight for to be in the finals and even an overall favorite. This season I haven’t had a strong connection with any of the designers. Gretchen started off strong but just lost her way; Mondo has really blossomed the last few weeks; Michael has been the most consistent; Christopher has been middle of the road and safe; April’s style has consistently come through week after week; and, Andy has been hit or miss. Overall, none of them have really stood out as top of the pack.

Winner: Mondo

Out: Valerie

My favorite fabric was April’s, but the best look was Mondo’s and he deserved the win. For the worst of the night … the rest were all pretty boring.  I would have been OK with either Valerie or Andy leaving. But, I will miss Valerie more than Andy on the show and on the runway.

I was happy to see how Valerie left the show. Her talk with the other designers after she was auf’d was one of the best goodbyes ever on Project Runway. She was so gracious and positive. Very few people compliment others in the way she did and that she did it after losing was even more impressive.

There are only three more episodes before the finale, so who do you want to see at fashion week as of now?

I want Mondo and Andy in the final… I have a crush on Andy. :)

Andy hasn’t really stood out for me. I like him though. I’m glad he has supporters!

I’ve been a Mondo fan from the beginning, first for his offbeat look and personality but even more for his talent and now his bravery. My oldest and best friend died two years ago from AIDS complications and I’m still not over it so it really touches me to see someone handle this terrible disease with such grace. And it’s not the death sentence it used to be with all of the medications that they have today to keep it under control. I’m glad Mondo is free from his burden, I hope the freedom only makes his designs soar to new heights and that he’s around to bring new inspiration to fashion and the world for a very long time.

I definitely hope that he takes the freedom he got (hopefully, he remains positive about revealing this “secret” and doesn’t regret it) and puts it into his last few designs and hopefully his fashion week collection.
