Project Runway – Down to the final four

The last challenge before Fashion Week is here and New York City is the inspiration. Mayor Michael Bloomberg was there to launch the challenge which had the designers looking throughout NYC to find inspiration.

- Season 8, Episode 12 - "We're in a New York State of Mind"

I’m very disappointed in the decision tonight. Time and time again, the judges say that their decision each week is based on that week’s design only. Tonight, that was clearly not true.

Headed to Fashion Week: Michael, Mondo, Andy and … Gretchen (what?)

Out: April

Gretchen’s outfit tonight was one of the worst on the whole season of Project Runway. There was no design. While April’s dress was similar to others she has made, it was interesting, well-made and most importantly not the worst thing to come down the runway. Unfortunately, it seems her age played against her in the decision. I would have loved to have seen what she could come up with as a full collection. Gretchen … not so much.

I was surprised at how much the judges loved Michael’s dress. It was pretty, but it seemed rather safe to me. Nothing extraordinary. But, I’m not a fashion expert either. I do think the dress was one of the top three on the runway tonight. Andy’s dress looked like a mess in the workroom. I have to agree with Gretchen (yep, I’m agreeing with her) that it looked like a dominatrix dress. Thankfully, that dress is not what went down the runway. Instead Andy was able to work the styling and fabric to make a complex and intriguing dress. My favorite dress tonight was Mondo’s. He has an amazing ability to use prints — a variety of prints — and just make it work and look like something you have never seen before, but want to wear. He is definitely the favorite going into the finale to win it all.

Are you happy with the judges’ decision? Or, do you think April was cheated? Who do you think should have gone home?

Last week, I had a poll asking who you wanted to see at fashion week. 90% voted for Mondo, 68% for Michael, 68% for Andy, 38% for April and 15% for Gretchen. Looks like most of you should be happy since the top three all made it to Fashion Week. Which three do you want to see make it to the runway at Fashion Week? Vote!

The judges comments even contradicted their decision. Gretchen should have gone home back when she designed the hippie muu-muu that was supposed to be couture. Michael Kors always rants about Gretchens talent as a stylist. First, what style? And, second, this is a design competition. Unfortunately, April shot herself in the foot, however by ignoring Tim’s advise regarding using some color. I am tiring of Michael Kors need to make jokes and insult, rather than offer constructive criticism. Nina always maintains a proper judging attitude. Given some of Heidi’s choices, she should be host and not judge.

Michael Kors is one to talk about taste, design and style. Has anyone seen the horrific, white, gaudy men’s watches Macy’s sells under his name?!?!

If you read the end credits it says that Producers are involved in the decision making – Gretchen is good television. She’s the “bad girl”the one who pisses everyone off in a season of markedly boring designs, easy challenges, boring guest judges and WHY 90 minutes?

Heidi isn’t a proper judge, she’s a model and after all this time she seems to think she knows it all, Michael is looking bored beyond bored and Nina never looked like she was doing anything but sucking lemons and being catty. Should the show return for a next season it’s time to go back to 60 minutes, change at least one judge and get back to the non-pro designers. The students, the ones who haven’t already had their own line, worked for designers AS A DESIGNER or otherwise had professional work experience of more than say 1-year.

I agree with Rich, Gretchen’s muu-muu should have sent her home, but producers decided, she was good TV.

But remember, Gretchen is the one with the real hard luck story, so it was inevitable that she made it to the finals. I wonder if Mondo told his family of his status between this week’s episode and next week’s, and how they reacted. I hope we get some closure to that and that he and his family are doing well. Go Mondo!

I need to look at the pictures online because I thought there was color in the skirt. Not a lot of color, but color. I doubted whether my eyes were playing tricks though when April didn’t mention it to the judges.

I hated that Gretchen dress. I thougt she would have been out that week, but the judges put her in the top 3.

Overall, I think this is my least favorite season fashion wise.

I definitely saw some colors, like teal and purple, in the bottom part of the dress. She may have mentioned that, but it didn’t make the edit since they were so focused on it being black.
