History was made this week on the season finale of The Amazing Race as the first all-female team took home the $1 million prize … but with two all-female teams in the final three, it was almost a certainty that one of them would win, especially when one of the teams has been a powerhouse throughout the race.
Strangely enough, the final leg was pretty uneventful for the most part. The longest part of the leg was the flight from Seoul to Los Angeles, and as all the teams were on the same flight there was no airport drama, no one left behind, no turning the plane around to pick up a team. The worst problem teams had to face once back in the U.S. were the cab drivers. How crazy is it that the teams had more trouble communicating with the American cab drivers, none of whom were native to the country, than they seemed to have in any other part of the world?! And where was the legendary L.A. traffic you always hear people complain about? The freeway was deserted!
Jill & Thomas, who started in the lead, quickly fell into third place thanks to their cab driver who refused to let them use his phone, or understood that they wanted to get to a computer, not his GPS. I think I would have just jumped out of the cab as it hurtled down the road before I snatched the phone out of the cabbie’s hand and throttled him with it. They were able to breeze through the first two tasks, but that cabbie really does owe them a million bucks.
Nat & Kat and Brook & Claire both had teammates that dealt with their fear of heights, and Nat almost put her team behind when she didn’t perform part of her Rose Bowl task correctly. Brook & Claire were still far enough behind that Nat & Kat were able to complete the pretty awesome final challenge which consisted of remembering each of their Pit Stop greeters and placing them in the right order from a large video wall of similar images. Brook & Claire did sail through that challenge and received their final clue from legendary game show host Bob Eubanks. Some tight editing made it seem like it was going to be a tight race to the finish, but in the end Nat & Kat crossed the finish line long before Brook & Claire got there while Thomas & Jill were still meandering around L.A. with their cab driver and didn’t even get to meet Bob.
I really was rooting for Brook & Claire to win, and as I said last week I thought maybe they had because Claire’s profile was no listed on the GemsTV website. I figured she took her money and ran but apparently not. And despite the preview for next season’s Unfinished Business, the girls are not part of the cast which includes Kynt & Vyxsin (12), Ron & Christina (12), Amanda & Kris (14), Jaime & Cara (14), Kisha & Jen (14), Margie & Luke (14), Mel & Mike (14), Flight Time & Big Easy (15), Zev & Justin (15), Jet & Cord (16) and Gary & Mallory (17). I just hope they have some better challenges for these teams than the ones we saw this season. I’ll be back in February to add my two cents to each episode, so until then thanks for reading and commenting this season and happy holidays!
“We need to be more hungry than Thomas. And I’m starving.” – Brook on beating Thomas & Jill
“I didn’t even pee my pants!” – Nat after the bungee task
“I’ve never loved asphalt so much.” – Nat again
“That’s just about when I lost my bananas.” – Brook describing the bungee task
How the hell do they bring back Jaime and Cara but not Brook and Claire? Ugh.
