Where is Gaby (Minka Kelly) on Parenthood?

I don't know about you, but I kind of miss seeing Minka Kelly's face on 'Parenthood.' Here are some reasons why.

Minka Kelly‘s new movie The Roommate (directed by Christian E. Christiansen) comes out this weekend, and seeing the commercials for it made me think about Kelly and her recurring role on Parenthood. And then it made me wonder: where she has been for the past few months?

I rather enjoyed Kelly’s character, Gaby, who plays Max’s behavioral aide on the show. We last saw her mediating a game between Max and his classmate Emily in “Put Yourself Out There” on November 16, but since then, nothing. Here are a few reasons why I’d like to see her more consistently:

She can be a pal for Kristina. I think it goes without saying that Kristina’s desperate for a couple of friends, especially ones she can confide in. She did reveal some personal information to Gaby in Season 1 (“The Big ‘O'”), and I thought that did her a world of good. Clearly, Kristina needs to loosen up a tad.

She’s great for Max. I’m pretty sure that it’s implied that Max still sees Gaby, but I really like when we get to see them working together. As someone with a background in education, I am always very impressed at the way Gaby handles their behavioral modification sessions, because she does so with kindness, patience, and consistency. It’s great to see her profession portrayed as an extremely valuable, often integral component of raising a child with Asperger’s.

She ruffles Adam’s feathers. I don’t know why, but I always get a kick out of when Adam is annoyed. Whether it’s because he catches her throwing back shots after hours (“What’s Goin’ On Down There?”) or whether Kristina talked to her about their sex life, it reminds me that he is a cranky 40-something guy and that’s funny to see, especially when I’m comparing him to man-child Nate Fisher (which, let’s face it, I always am).

She (could have) snagged Crosby. This is just me being evil, but I kinda wish they had let the whole Crosby-Gaby subplot pan out a little more. I realize that would have been the predictable outcome, and I applaud Parenthood for not automatically going there, but I still wanted to see their friendship unfold a bit. (Side note: I don’t really like Jasmine and Crosby together, and now that they are getting married, I can’t help but wonder if he will openly admit that he’s just marrying her for Jabbar’s sake.)

What about you? Do you miss Gaby, or could you live without her?

Besides the movie, she’s also apparently been cast in the “Charlie’s Angels” reboot at ABC, so she may not be back for a while.

I agree with you that it was interesting to see Gaby at work, but I have to say I don’t really miss her. In fact, I hadn’t even thought about her [missing] until I read your article.

I have not really missed her, but looks like she is coming back to make trouble for Jasmine and Crosby. I love Jasmine and Crosby together, but think they have some work to do before their happily ever after. I hope they will make the necessay changes to find their way back to each other. Both Dax and Joy were EXCELLENT last night (2/9/11) giving it to each other! I think there is more to the feelings they have each other than just Jabbar. Jabber is so adorable, who wouldn’t love him. Jasmine and Crosby have hot chemistry and I love them!
