Poll: Who should play wonder woman?

Who do you think would make the best Wonder Woman? Even if 'Wonder Woman' didn't make it to the fall lineup, we can still speculate. Who would you have cast: Maggie Q, Alison Brie, Olivia Wilde, Mary MacCormack or Emily Rose?

Since we’ve already hit the cancellation point for September shows and are waiting for the October shows to release, let’s look back (again) at shows that might’ve hit this fall’s radar. I know the show’s dead and gone, but clearly the memory lingers on. So, what other actresses would people like to see as Wonder Woman? When I saw the preview images of Adrienne Palicki she looked awkward and uncomfortable. Admittedly, it’s pretty difficult to feel comfortable in a polyester bustier. While I thought she totally brought it in the pilot, I started to imagine other actresses who would also show tenacity and amazonian strength. Since, we’ve gone say 7 days without discussing  Wonder Woman here at CliqueClack, I’m going to open it up to the crowd. Who do you think could play Wonder Woman either in a TV or film version?

For my picks, I went back to women whose past roles showed Wonder Woman’s core principles. I unabashedly favor Gina Torres as rocking the amazon swagger in her roles as futuristic fighter Zoe Washburne (Firefly), rebellion fighter Hel (Cleopatra 2525),cartoon hero Vixen (Justice League) and video game Wonder Woman (DC Online). According to Katie, “Gina Torres actually played Wonder Woman’s evil doppleganger Superwoman in Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. Interestingly enough, Superwoman is far more sexual than Wonder Woman. I’d like to see her play Diana.” However, Mary MacCormack totally channels amazonian anger (and support) in In Plain Sight. I love Haven and Emily Rose‘s character stepped up her game. For the rest, Olivia Wilde’s totally coming into her own both on the small and large screen;  I love Alison Brie‘s Annie (Community) and, hey, Alison’s a brunette; Maggie Q (Nikita) and Zoe Saldana (Colombiana) are no-brainers! As Lucy Lawless, well, why not?

I wonder if David E. Kelly had any of these women in mind when he wrote the first draft. Would it have affected how he wrote the character or how the designers drafted the costume? If he had a heroine in her mid-30s in mind, would he have created a more fleshed out character? And, yes, I realize some of these women are in their late twenties, but you know what I’m saying.

Does anyone have anyone else to add? Although I chose these women with Wonder Woman, the TV series in mind, if you have actresses for the film version in mind (or want to differentiate) do forward them on!

And Ivey will post his disapproval in 3 … 2 …. 1 ….

you should have a ‘none of the above’ option.

Gina Torres would rock as the Amazon Princess, & is my top choice as she has the acting range, athleticism, & emotive abilities for such a complex role. (and it is complex). However, given the current casting climate I can’t see her being cast as she’s too real in body type (not a toothpick), too old in the Hollywood opinion. I would love to be proven wrong as an ethnic woman in the role would be a nice change.

Mary MacCormack is in a successful show with a new child. I see her having similar obstacles as Gina.

Zoe Saldana isn’t going to give up film, & her role in two franchises, for a genre TV series.

As for the others, I have no opinion as I either don’t like their acting style or don’t know enough about them.

Sadly, I can’t think of any alternatives. I think Charisma Carpenter would have been an excellent choice back in the day & if I recall she was affiliated to rumors way back when.

. . . . .

Several words:

Lucy Lawless … DC One Million

Nuff said.

Gina Torres would make a believable Wonder Woman. She has the beauty and the curves and the dark hair – but most importantly (to me, anyway) she looks capable of beating anyone into submission.

Another actress who could pull the role off would be Bridget Regan. Here’s a video that showcases her fighting skills and her equally impressive hair (try to ignore the music). She has the seriousness and physicality to play Wonder Woman.

I totally forgot about Bridget Regan. Thanks for the reminder!

I think you mean Maggie Q not Maggie Lawson. I pick her.

Crap I do. I thought I went back and edited that, but clearly it didn’t take!

Bridget Regan from Legend of the Seeker

Vote number three for Bridget Regan (as a brunette) for the complete package. She even had the classic look in Legend of the Seeker, and wears silly outfits with poise.

Of the poll options, definitely Gina Torres. She’s the only one that has the height, the bearing, and the ferocity (as well as the DC universe experience). And, as others have mentioned, she lacks the protruding ribcage. :P

Anyone but Lucy Lawless she is old, she’s 44 years cand can’t act her way out of a paper bag.Don’t like any of the others..Someone strong and tall and young who can actually act would be nice?

I take it you didn’t watch Battlestar Galactica?

. . . . .

I beg to differ, thomas.

I didn’t thing much of her until I met her this past summer at Comic-Con. She’s beautiful, statuesque, engaging and rather hot of a mature woman.

Plus! I doubt she’d need straps for her outfit.

I’m on board with her …

I have said once and say it again, Lucy Lawless…I loved her in Xena, she is perfect for the part, she played a princess before, she can do it again. this time with a lasso, and not a sword. As for Emily Rose,no I really can not say about the others, because i never watch House,Cleopatra,or any other shows that are listed, but i do watch Haven. so let the bashing begin, with me,but be prepare, i will bash back.
