Top Chef: Texas – Finally, it’s Restaurant Wars!

It's Restaurant Wars with a new twist - it's a Battle of the Sexes, Top Chef style!

- Season 10, Episode 10 - "Restaurant Wars"

No Quickfire Challenge this time, as we finally jump into the Restaurant Challenge! This time it’s also battle of the sexes due to pure chance, I suppose due to the four male vs four female conchefstants remaining. The challenge is a bit different this time around, two nights in a row instead of all the same night. Boys were up first, then girls the night after. Typical business, three course meal, one chef running the front of house, each member must do at least one dish. Blah, blah, blah, etc.

Edward volunteers for the front, as he owns a restaurant – and Paul’s idea for the name is Canteen — communal place to eat. Lindsay is up front for girls, with their rustic Half-Bushel name. There’s a bit of disagreement about what Beverly should make, and then Chris mentions that he thinks the girls are catty, and hopes they can work together! Oh, Chris. And then he drops a Kobayashi Maru reference (from Star Trek), then explains it. Oh, Chris! Again.

Typical fun once things get started on our first night with the men’s team. It gets chaotic, expediting doesn’t go smoothly… servers having all manner of trouble. Eventually Paul takes charge of expediting — he felt that friendship got in the way, too worried about annoying the others. Interesting afterwards: the girls think they need to step up, but the guys think they didn’t do so well. Ed points out that their only chance is that the girls screw up worse.

For the girls night, there were a few interesting things. Lindsay talks about being the prom queen and the top of her college class. Sure would be disappointing if she didn’t win (hint, hint). A bit of Beverly saying Lindsay and Sarah are treating her like child … sounds sort of like it, but she does screw up a few things. During the service, customers are waiting for a table, then the judges wait, then the boys wait! That’s not a good sign. But finally the judges decide that the better service was at the men’s and better food at the women’s. Well, this is Top Service, so easy money on men.

Right, of course, the women win, and … Beverly wins for her incredibly flavorful braised short rib! As for the poor men, Tom berates them all for a messy service and screwing up everything. But Ty-Lör’s disappointing dishes are just too much, and he is sent off to face Nyesha in the online Last Chance Kitchen “Pastry in 30 Minutes” challenge … Spoiler: Nyshea wins yet again! She’s unstoppable! Watch for yourself to see why.

Next time, Charlize Theron shows up! CELEBRITY CAMEO!
