Face Off – Water, water, everywhere

When you jump in a lake, it's best to know how to swim. Except when you're a 'Face Off' contestant ... where the rules don't apply.

- Season 2, Episode 2 - "Water World"

Is anybody listening? Anybody at all?

When some of the contestants showered the morning of the announcement of the underwater challenge on Face Off, they diligently cleaned the wax out of their ears. Others, however, couldn’t or wouldn’t be bothered with the task.

Now … I might just be wingin’ it here, but if someone told me I had to come up with a creature which would end up taking a dip in a water tank, I would do my homework. You know … stuff like check to see if what I was coming up with was up to snuff water-wise. Make sense to you? Because it makes sense to me.

But common sense isn’t so common … a glaringly overlooked fact among many of the players in the game on the show:

  • When your creation enters the water and you see a haze cloud develop around it from the paint applied, this could be considered a problem.
  • When the outfit your model is wearing floats all over the place obscuring the creature you’ve created, this could be considered a problem.
  • When the prosthetic applications applied to your model start floating hither and yon when submerged, this could be considered a problem.

Hello! It’s an underwater challenge folks! Why is it so difficult to understand “testing” is a good idea for something like this? Check the make up you’re applying to see if it’s water-proof! Make sure glued pieces stay glued! The costume shouldn’t have a mind of its own! Oh … here’s a good one: Ask your model if s/he’s going to have a problem being put in the water all dolled up in the first place!

Wow. I’m not even going to name names off the guilty parties. To do so would just frustrate me further. I will say this, however: On a week where there was so much confusion and total lack of logic, it didn’t surprise me in the least the team which fought and rabble roused the most was the first one saved from elimination during judging. Beki (who’s sort of a know-it-all crabby grouch) and Miranda had their claws out from the very start, so it was a kick to see their creation gel and get the nod.

As intersting a character as Nix seemed to be, it just goes to show you you can’t judge a book by its cover. There was little doubt the dude needed to be let go for his lackadaisical efforts.

No one’s here to party, folks: It’s a hot and heavy competition.

The Shark was such a stupid gimmick to begin with. I know Jerry let the painting go to Nix,but it was HE who volunteered, for the sake of time, to paint the shell and did so with Ninja Turtle cartoon green. Jerry was also the one applying the prosthetics and the doggone things didn’t stick. I hope for all the smack he talks he learned a lesson. I won’t be disappointed if he gets sent home soon. He bugs me.
When is miss Tara going to get her due? Sheesh. She has come close in both episodes. It was her brilliant idea to use the iridescent fabric to cover the edges while her partner was all bajiggity about it …
