Quibbling Siblings lament full DVRs and busy nights

Every week brother and sister team Bob and Debbie take on a new topic. This week we talk about why cable schedules all their shows for Sundays and other DVR back ups.

Bob:

Would someone kindly tell the cable networks that there are other nights than Sunday in the week? Seriously, is it just me who has trouble scheduling their DVR come Sunday nights? It seems like every show I really like is on Sunday, and just about every one of them at 9. Showtime and HBO seem to set all their original programming on Sunday nights. As if that weren’t bad enough, AMC has followed suit, making it the big night for their original shows too. Then, the best show on network television (at least in my opinion), The Good Wife, got moved the Sunday night. Yeesh.

Seriously, if I made a list of my favorite shows: Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Good Wife, Shameless, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, The Walking Dead, and now Luck are all on Sunday night. Add in all the half hour shows that HBO and Showtime put on the nigh too and there’s no contest when it comes to which night I’m busiest.

So what night do you find yourself having to make hard decisions or do you agree with me about the craziness of Sundays?

Debbie:

Sadly, I had to look up the schedule and ask Keith about this, since I don’t know how to program a DVR! We watch so little TV live that I’m not sure if I do have any busy nights. My favorite shows that are currently on — House, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural are spread out. The problem for me is 10:00 shows. I really enjoy Castle, White Collar, Revenge, Psych, and The Mentalist … but they are all on past my bedtime! So the challenge for me becomes catching up on all the 10:00 shows at other times during the week. I’m often behind an episode or two or more because I turn into a pumpkin very early.

Bob:

I totally forgot to even mention that I had to give up Iron Chef America (and I missed the whole season of Next Iron Chef). Stupid Sunday nights! What kind of magical DVR do you have, though? I can only record two things at a time, and as I may have indicated, Sunday nights present a bit of a predicament in that matter. If there’s a good football game on too, forget about it, I’m done.

Another part of the problem, though, is that I only have so much time to catch up with shows. I feel like every Sunday night puts me into a huge TV deficit that I have to work all week to overcome. Really, it’s daunting. My life is incredibly hard.

Debbie:

I don’t have a magical DVR, I just don’t watch more than two things during a timeslot. I’m lucky that way … My life is not incredibly hard.

I do always get a little stressed about new shows coming out, though. I really can’t add to my lineup because I can only watch about an hour of TV a night. What if I really like The River? What if Touch lives up to its awesome preview episode? Oh, the drama. …

Bob:

Seriously. We need lots of sympathy.

Supposedly, AT &T’s u-verse has a DVR that record 4 shows at once! I don’t know if its true or how it works, but that’s the pitch the sales lady gave me until she found out that it hadn’t reached my area yet.

The good thing about HBO, Showtime, and AMC is that they do tend to repeat several times that night. So if your mindful about it, you can set your dvr for the next showing.

Ann: Yep, that’s how it works, 4 tuners at a time.
