Face Off – The wheels on the bus go round and round

Sue survives being thrown under a bus ... Beki becomes a leper. Maybe *that* should be the next challenge on 'Face Off' ...

- Season 2, Episode 5 - "Dangerous Beauty"

There are a myriad of ways you can present and project yourself in the eyes of others. You pretty much have control how you come across and how you’d like to be perceived. In the case of Beki Ingram on Face Off, it appears that demeanor is as an overconfident snag.

Yeah … she’s got the chops to do her thing on the show, something she’s showcased time and again. But does she have to be such a royal fishwife when working with her fellow contestants in the process? Doesn’t it appear to you she has the tendency to get her panties in a wad at the drop of a hat? Don’t you get the feeling she simply cannot play well with others, no matter the circumstances? Granted, her partner Sue was no piece of cake to work with — Sue is generally whiny and wimpy and tears up at the slightest slight that gets tossed her way. So putting these two together for an important challenge just meant the fur was going to fly. And it did.

Beki sniped. Sue cried. Beki froze up while giving in to many of Sue’s desires during their time together, Sue still managed to go behind her back and ask the opinion of the others in light of their bickering. Beki dripped venom at Sue’s suggestion to texturize their creation, Sue soldiered on with her plan with no matter to Beki’s reluctance to do so. (I’ll give this to Beki — she can masterfully display outward rejection of a request while holding in the raging harpy … and you well know she’s doing it when it happens. How in the world does she do that so well? I’ll tell you how: Lots and lots of practice.)

It’s no wonder, then, the duo’s tarantula/bird of paradise brainchild turned out to be such an overstated and garish mess … a little surprising given all of Beki’s skills and knowledge. But what did Beki really care? She won immunity from the previous werewolf wound challenge, so tossing Sue to the wolves wasn’t a problem for her. I literally heard a thud as the bus Beki tossed Sue beneath ran over her. (Loved the fact Ve called her out on that during the judging of the characters. You know that fact is going to stick with the judges and the other contestants going forward. Beki’s vilified herself to the point no one wants to work with her.)

I didn’t think last week’s “Night Terrors” episode could be topped in the disappointment department as far as the handiwork was concerned, but this week’s competition proved me wrong. There wasn’t much I liked about any of the hopefuls’ creations.

Still … I’m going to keep an optimistic attitude about next week and the aging trials everyone will be put through.

Notes:

  • For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out why Vivica A. Fox was a guest judge on the show. Then it was revealed: She was in the laudable Batman & Robin as Ms. B Haven. I forgot all about that … fortunately.
  • Sam Huntington (Being Human) seemed the chipper fellow as a guest on the program, didn’t he? I enjoyed his involvement and detail scrutiny on the werewolf wound challenge.

Beki felt since they couldn’t touch her who the hell cares. Sue was whiny and childish. I’m surprised Sue didn’t just blindly follow Beki’s lead given Beki’s winning track record.
