Saturday Night Live – Will Ferrell/Usher

Joe Biden, George W. Bush, The Culps, Greg Stink, Usher, and Will Ferrell's mom can't make this Will Ferrell-hosted episode a total home run. But the 100th SNL Digital Short is the episode's high point. We'll post the videos when we get 'em.

- Season 37, Episode 21 - "Will Ferrell/Usher"

Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer return as The Culps

Cold Open: Biden’s Imaginary Friend — I bet someone today that the Cold Open would have something to do with Biden having to apologize to Obama for the gay marriage flap. I won! And who didn’t think Biden’s “imaginary” friend George was W? Especially with Will Ferrell hosting.

Monologue: Will Ferrell — What happens when Will tries to speak to him mom (his real mom, right there on stage!) from the heart, without cue cards? A funny disaster with a nice reference to the current Time cover.

One-A-Day Nasaflu — Wasn’t sure where this ad for flu medicine was going, but the punchline gave me a laugh. There were some funny visual gags too but not one of the strongest commercial spoofs.

LGBT Prom — The Culps make a surprise appearance at a prom. Nice to see Ana Gasteyer back on the show. Their versions of pop hits is hilarious, and I think Will loses his place midway through a song. Too bad we didn’t get a Mary Katherine Gallagher sketch too.

ESPN Classic: Lady Long Drive Classic – Sponsored by Stay Free Maxi-pads. Will Forte makes a return visit as Greg Stink. The hilariously inappropriate taglines never fail, and they even managed to freshen up the sketch a bit with “real time” news reporting covering the OJ Simpson Bronco chase (while cleverly reminding us it’s 1994) interrupting the golf tournament.

SNL Digital Short: The 100th Short Celebration — A great musical retrospective with Justin Bieber, Natalie Portman, Michael Bolton, JT and more. Wow! Pretty awesome on all levels, and best seen to be believed. Could this be the last Digital Short?

Musical Guest: Usher — I like Usher’s dance music and moves, but it was a nice to see him sing more than dance for a change. Second song was like the sketches after Weekend Update — Meh.

Weekend Update — Seth did a very funny “Really!?!” take on the Time breast feeding cover. Liam Neeson shows up to take on Nic Cage (and is that Seth I can hear giggling off camera?).

The 2012 Funkytown Debate — So this was … I mean, it … ummm … well … Jay Pharaoh in a silver lamé diaper is something you can’t unsee. Just bizarre.

Broadway Sizzle — I’m not really sure what to say about this one either. Will Ferrell’s bad song choices were amusing though, but that was about it.

Anniversary Party — We’ve seen this sketch before. Kristin Wiig and Will Forte saved it with their creepy guests who weren’t really guests of the happy couple.

Almost Pizza — A repeat of a very funny commercial to try to close out the show on a high note.

The digital short was HILARIOUS and had me laughing through the whole sketch and once the Culps started signing I was in tears!
