Pretty Little Liars – Spencer loses it

In this week's 'Pretty Little Liars,' Spencer discovers she's brought Garrett's investigation one step closer to its conclusion -- but not in the way she'd hoped.

- Season 3, Episode 6 - "The Remains of the 'A'"

I have to be honest. It took me awhile to gather my thoughts together to write a review of this week’s Pretty Little Liars.

It’s not because the episode wasn’t “good.” It’s just because … I don’t really know where to go from here. I remember having similar issues at this point in Season 2, simply because things are thrown out left and right and before they’re all pieced together appropriately, they just seem like … well, like random items at a rummage sale.

Speaking of which, I suppose I’ll start with Hanna and her mom participating in the church’s charity event. Do we trust Ted? I kind of hope so, because Ashley could use a nice, good man in her life. Of course, the run-in with Detective Wilden made me cringe, because it reminded me of Ashley’s past. Wilden is not a kind man, to say the least. I’m sure he’ll be doing some blackmailing in the near future.

And the fact that he appeared where Hanna was hiding was well-played on either side. It could have meant that, as he stated, the note Hanna left underneath Mrs. Reynold’s ID bracelet was found and brought to his attention. Or, it could also mean that he is working with the ‘As.’

It’s unfortunate that Aria had to take the photographer’s job offer in order to sneak around and get Lucas’ negatives (and, inadvertently, the sleeping pills used to drug Emily). What I mean by this is that it’s too bad she couldn’t have just gotten that opportunity without all the other baggage that came along with it. Could you imagine how she felt as she poured that drink all over Laurel’s expensive equipment? Why does this investigation always involve the girls’ downgrading themselves to dishonest schemers? Aria is actually a talented photographer and would ordinarily be a great asset to Laurel’s studio. It’s too bad that she can’t actually focus on that. No, that would be too normal!

We do find out who — or should I say what — April Rose is. When Jason discovers it’s the name of an antique shop, he and Spencer dart over there like Encyclopedia Brown and Nancy Drew. I got a little confused as to when the anklet was brought in (as was the proprietor; he didn’t recognize it and it didn’t have a tag). I would say that it’s a little far-fetched that this anklet that Spencer saw for just a few minutes two years earlier would absolutely be the same one in the shop … but this is Rosewood, after all. (Take that however you like.)

Finally: is Ezra lying to Aria about all that money? It didn’t really seem like it, but then why didn’t he just tell her before? Why is it “embarrassing?” And why didn’t he just put it into an account or invest it? (Side note: Ezra’s pajama pants were so cute. The photo shoot? Not so much.)

Hopefully, next week’s episode will reveal more than this week’s did. One thing we did learn for sure: Garrett’s case has been thrown out, first due to “lack of evidence,” and now because the anklet that Spencer herself discovered has been ruled out as containing Garrett’s blood. No wonder she loses it at the end. Pretty convenient that they know that traces of Ali’s blood is on there, but they have yet to determine the other sample. And the search continues!

Pretty Little Quotes:

“Be careful. And wear sensible shoes.” — Spencer
“Hey — I wear three-inch heels, or I wear nothing.” — Hanna

“Hanna, being kind and decent doesn’t make Ted a ‘goober.'” — Ashley
“Yeah, I know. It’s the fact that he says ‘Howdy’ and wears clothes made of roadkill.” — Hanna

“I wonder what kind of person [Ali] would have turned into. I mean, it see it with the kids I work with … at first, they’re all attitude, but you peel back the layers, and you usually find a person underneath.” — Jason
“Yeah … with Ali, I keep peeling; I just always seem to keep finding new layers.” — Spencer

i’ve been thinking lately that Spencer is part of the ‘A’ crew (maybe even actually killed Allison) and the entire end of this ep was her being mad her setup of Garrett isn’t working out like she planned despite how smart she is

So, I’ve just watching the show thanks to Netflix after being brought to curiosity thanks to Go Fug Yourself.

So, for some reason, for awhile now, I am torn between 3 options – Hanna is A. Hanna’s mom is A. Or Allison is still alive, with her death covered up by whatever massive town bigwig conspiracy she was involved in (my bet is high school prostitution ring run or frequented by Spencer’s dad with money laundered by the law firm Melissa worked for…)

Although, for the life of me, I can’t understand why the girls wouldn’t tell every single adult they meet about the text messages by this point.
