Bones – Wendell has become my favorite intern

Bones and Wendell

Not too long ago, Rich asked which of the rotating interns should stick around. Should it be Clark Edison, who was the first to try to replace Zack? Or possibly Vincent Nigel-Murray, who is, frankly, the funniest of the bunch? For the longest time, I was a big fan of Daisy Wick, who is easily the most annoying of the bunch. After this week’s episode, however, I’ve finally come to the conclusion that Wendell Bray is the student I’d like to see stick around most.

Everyone still misses Zach, both on the show and in the audience. Finding a permanent replacement is difficult for Brennan (Though less so, you would think, than the producers of the show). I think Zack and Wendell have something in common that gives him a leg up.

Zack was certainly an interesting character. More socially inept than his boss (And, likely, most of the people on the planet) and seemingly innocent, I doubt few couldn’t help but like Zack. To this day, I still don’t get the choices that were made with his character in connection to the Gormagon story line, and wish Zack were still around. The rest of the Bones team still does to, because Dr. Addy was not just a part of the team, but a member of the family.

Wendell Bray is too. He’s got that air of innocence about him that reminds me of Zack a little, but comes from a different background. He’s a ‘pull himself up by the bootstraps’ type that appeals to Booth, who’s joined a recreational hockey team with him. The rest of the Jeffersonian team obviously cares for him too, as they all pitched in to ensure that he was able to continue his work. While Rich stated that he’s dull, I actually like how he has integrated himself into the group.

Other Stuff:

  • Loved the plumbing stuff between Booth and Brennan, especially how it allowed for a small role reversal
  • Clarence Wiedman works for the CIA now?
  • Is it a rule that guys have to geek out over all things Bond (because I still do)?
  • I’ve been trying to figure out where I know  the actress who played the girlfriend from without the use of IMDb … It’s really bugging me.

It looks like this was the perfect time to make this post.

The creators have no plans to pick only one intern to take over right now, or anytime soon, and I’m glad.

After tonight’s episode, Wendell is higher on my list. He’s very talented and straight-forward.

That actress has done a lot of work.

As for Zack, he gets no love from me.

Decent episode overall, but I’m going to get tired of Booth’s lingering issues as a device.

my GF says she was on Gilmore Girls for a few episodes …

That actress, if it’s the same one I’m thinking of, was on “Pushing Daisies” and sings funny ditties on YouTube with an equally funny girlfriend. (I’m too lazy to look up names.)

And yeah, I like this intern as well and hope he sticks around. (The way they handled Zach was too weird, totally out of character for him.)

Yep, her name is Riki Lindhome and together with Kate Micucci (Gooch from “Scrubs”) she’s “Garfunkel and Oates”, the legendary comedy-folk super duo… ;-)

People may be missing Zach, I don’t. I think the whole intern rotation idea was great, and if Wendell stays with us that’s great too.
And unlike last week, this episode was very good.

I’m not really advocating a change in the rotation, but if they end up sticking with someone, I’d like it to be Wendell.

ChrisG: THANKS for that link. I loved Gooch :)

It was, FWIW, her spot on BBT that I remembered her from.
