Katy Perry on How I Met Your Mother? Two things I want to see….

Katy Perry is set to guest star on 'How I Met Your Mother' later this season, and there are two things I know for sure that I want to see.

No! Not those two things! We all know that Elmo was robbed of seeing Katy Perry’s boobs last year — though it might be more accurate to say that Elmo saw what we were all robbed of seeing, since PBS pulled Katy’s already-filmed segment from Sesame Street. Far be it from me to go back down that river of cleavage again. …

There are two things I’d like to see happen on Katy’s episode of How I Met Your Mother. Katy will play a love interest for Ted, and also Zoey’s cousin (talk about a conflict of interest). Apparently she’ll be sweet and innocent. I hope that doesn’t mean she’ll dress conservatively, because I really, really need to have Barney make a boob joke, a cleavage joke, something to reference the Sesame Street thing. Inside jokes slay me — you might even say that would be legendary.

The second thing I really want to see is Katy singing. I think it’s weird when musical people are guest stars and they don’t sing. Yes, I totally mean Victor Garber on Glee (for shame, FOX!), but also Brittney Spears when she guested on HIMYM (though whether or not Brit-Brit actually has any musical talent is highly debatable … I couldn’t be less of a fan). Why not really use all of a guest’s talents? If they let Alyson Hannigan sing (they did — remember “Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit“?) surely they’d give Katy Perry a go….

What do you want to come out of Katy Perry’s guest appearance on HIMYM (besides her boobs coming out of her dress)?

No, no, no, no, no.
She can’t sing. I hate when they have guest stars and they sing, and the episode is about them- not the character or the regulars, but the celebrity.
Carrie Underwood didn’t sing, and Katy Perry shouldn’t sing.
Weird.

I’m not sure I would consider singing one of Katy Perry’s talents…

You may not like her music, but if you were to turn off all of the instruments (and, alas, autotuning that is a part of everything these days), I’d bet she still has a pretty damn good voice. I’ve seen her on those VH1/Palladia concerts on TV, and she did a good job with an acoustic song.

That Firework song makes my ears bleed.

Yeah, see I have this great trick: I don’t listen to music I don’t like :)

Couldn’t even tell you what “that Firework song” sounds like, as i”ve never heard it :P

Yes, well, the office I spend most of my time in has a top 40 station pumped into it without any say from me.

For the most part Katy Perry bugs me, but anyone that ends up on the Simpsons is at least worthy if getting a chance. Who knows, maybe she’s actually an amazing actress. Then she’d have a talent to go with all that fame! Now, I work at DISH and have been re-watching episodes of HIMYM on my lunch break using the TV Everywhere app for my phone, so I can watch anything on my phone that I have DVR’d at home, and just re-watched the most recent episode, Bad News. That ending is still a sucker punch, even the second time through.
