Webisode Clack – Dr. Horrible; Sling vs. Hulu; Battlestar Galactica

There’s more to TV than television. Every year — heck, every month — there are more new Internet-only shows popping up online and in podcasts, and existing shows expanding their worlds in the same way. Here are some notable things going on in the world of webisodes …

Dr. Horrible available for pre-order

Big non-surprise of the day: I’m a huge Joss Whedon fan. So when I’d heard of his Dr. Horrible musical coming online, I didn’t hesitate to buy it on iTunes. Finally, though, the complete movie is coming to DVD and is available at Amazon.com for pre-order now. What’s surprising to me is that the run-time clocks in at 100 minutes — that’s longer than some feature films. The trio of videos released online only totaled about 40 minutes. What’s in those extra 60 minutes?

Anyway, I highly recommend the series, even if you’re no fan of musicals or Joss Whedon.

Sling.com tries to make Hulu.com nervous

Sling — the makers of the popular online-TV-viewing appliance, the Slingbox — have released sling.com to the public. The new site is meant to be a competitor to Hulu.com, though it does license some of Hulu’s content. The few things sling.com has that Hulu doesn’t include video shorts from CollegeHumor.com, for example, and the ability to view and control your home Slingbox from within a browser. The web viewer for Slingbox currently only works under MS Windows, though it does work in Firefox.

I like the idea of having a one-stop for watching any multitude of shows online. I only wish more networks would loosen up already and join in with the rest.

Battlestar Galactica webisodes are coming

Last season we saw a few BSG webisodes featuring Bill Adama’s past. I’m hoping for a better turnout this go around, as a new batch of webisides release on December 12, titled “Face of the Enemy.” One of the scribes for the series is friend-of-CliqueClack, Jane Espenson.

Two webisodes will be released every week for five weeks (that’s ten total, for you non-mathletes). There’s a little spoiler info on Galactica Sitrep about one of the little “surprises” from the webisodes, but I’ll leave that to you to go find out if you really want to know.

Lastly …

I like to embed a couple of videos in each of the Webisode Clack posts. First up is this week’s new Office webisode:

And as a bonus clip for you, here’s a hilarious Star Wars vs. Star Trek mashup video. Enjoy!

From what Joss said ( https://whedonesque.com/comments/18243#270186 ) its because of “Commentary: The Musical” – apparently the commentary has more songs than the actual musical (to quote the man himself: “It has nearly twice as much music as Dr. Horrible itself — since you can’t really talk that much during a commentary musical or it sounds like a regular commentary.”),

and Felicia Day thinks the commentary songs are actually better than Dr. Horrible itself! (Or so I seem to remember she might very well have said she ALMOST liked them better – I’m not going to listen to the interview again just to find out – it’s Part two of the interview at https://www.whedonage.com/index.php?page=Exclusive_Video_interview_with_Felicia_Day )

Moving abroad I found a great solution which allows me to have my slingbox hosted in the USA so I can watch live american TV stations anywhere I travel – I’ve been using https://www.parkmytv.com for about 2 months and it works like a charm. Would rec to anyone traveling or moving abroad…
