Piano man, girlfights, Ben, and making out – Things that didn’t suck this week

Neil Patrick Harris, a girlfight on a soccer field, a bunch of blood, and Ben Linus being awesome. These are some of my favorite things from television this week.

It’s season finale week, so there were a ton of big events on TV. While some of them (the Grey’s massacre) were certainly bigger than others, I loved them all. So here’s to all of moments, large and small, that made me happy about TV this week.

Piano Man on Glee

I love Glee, but one of my issues with the show is that the numbers are often way over-produced. My favorite songs are usually the ones in which it seems as though the actors are singing live, instead of lip-syncing to a prerecorded and highly-mixed track. For whatever reason, Neil Patrick Harris‘s numbers all kind of felt like that, but he and Will singing Piano Man in the bar was by far my favorite, just for its spontaneity.

Girlfight on Parenthood

One of my signs of good TV is if it makes me uncomfortable. If I have a visceral reaction to what I’m seeing on the screen, that’s definitely a good sign. So the fact that I was cowering on the couch during the entire fight scene between Haddie and Amber on this week’s Parenthood, made it one of my favorite moments this week. From Haddie’s nasty friends, to the hair-pulling, it was a terribly realistic girlfight, and I totally empathized with both of them.

Ben being awesome on Lost

Tonight is the epic Lost series finale, but I already started missing Ben Linus after this week’s episode. He’s a twisted bastard, but my God, he’s so funny. I know that Hurley is supposed to provide a lot of the comic relief, but Ben makes me laugh in a way that none of these other people can.

Love Square on Community

First Slater comes back to gum up the works, then Britta tells Jeff that she’s in love with him on the season finale of Community. So what does Jeff do? Does he make a choice? Does he run away like a little bitch? Well, kind of. Unfortunately for everyone involved, he runs away… straight into Annie’s mouth.

Death, destruction, and more death on Grey’s Anatomy

I don’t really have much to say about this other than, well, that’s one way to get rid of extraneous characters that nobody liked but who were just brought on to fill the void left by the mass exodus of original cast members. Also, DAMN!
