Nikita is the show you should be watching … but aren’t

The new shows this fall have been mostly snoozers. But a surprise thrill is 'Nikita'. If you stopped watching or never gave this show a chance -- you should!

My favorite new show of the season is Nikita. At the beginning I wasn’t sure what to make of the show, and 55 minutes or so into the pilot I didn’t think the show was anything special. That all changed with the twist that Nikita had a mole inside Division. This show is not a remake of the movie, La Femme Nikita, or Point of No Return; rather, it answers the question of what came next. That I found intriguing.

I’m the first to admit the show was very weak the first few episodes, and I’m not surprised people stopped watching. Nikita fell down my DVR watching list early in the season. But it just needed a few episodes for the story to become interesting, for the actors to find their characters, and for the plot to become intense. Unfortunately, these days viewers don’t give shows a chance to hit their groove. New shows have to hit the spot right away or they are a miss.

So this is my plea to those of you out there that like shows about strong women, spies, or intrigue: give Nikita a watch. The first three episodes are a little slow, but watching the development of the story is rewarded. I’m sure I will get slammed for this comparison, but Nikita has the characteristics of Alias that made it a great thrill, without the Rambaldi craziness. A similar “search of artifacts” comes in the form of searching for the black boxes that will help bring Division down. It has the “good versus evil,” the action scenes, the romance, the tension, the double agents, and strong female leads who can kick ass. It has it all!

I was ecstatic when Covert Affairs came out for my spy fix, but after watching Nikita there is no comparison. Nikita beats Covert Affairs without a doubt as the more thrilling, action-packed spy show. Over this winter hiatus, find Nikita and watch the episodes you have missed. You won’t be disappointed. Well, that is, if you are looking for an Alias-like show to watch. If so, Nikita is it.

I agree, one of the best new shows on television this year, narrowly beaten for me by Boardwalk Empire(which I absolutely loved).

Nikita put shows such as Undercovers to shame with how good it is, great new series with a fantastic finale. Hopefully we will get some more.

Ugh. Undercovers was so bad. I only watched maybe 3 episodes of that. I was so glad when Nikita turned around for the better and filled the spy void.

You are right on the mark Carla. I am hoping more people watch and help boost the ratings. It’s just an incredible show.

Keep spreading the word! I will be sad to see this show canceled.

I loved this show when it premiered but as it went on each episode seemed the same. wile Maggie Q is super hot and the writing is good its just a shame that each ep is so similar I feel like Im watching the same ep over and over.

Did you watch the last few episodes? I thought they got much better and the story got much more intriguing.

no I stopped a few eps back. wile I love the cast and really enjoyed the show in the beginning it just became to repetitive.
I think it would have made a better movie(s).

If you liked it at all, I recommend you watch the rest of the eps so far and I think you will enjoy the improvement.

I agree that Nikita is very good. We watch it every week — and we watch only 3 shows (okay, so we don’t have cable): Nikita, Chuck, and Hawaii 5-0.

We rented the old La Femme Nikita, which is okay, but not as sprightly. Prefer this one, and of course preferred Alias, if one is to compare time-frames. But as one person said, Alias died a horrible death. Therefore agree about how nice that there is no Rambaldi nonsense — Alias went downhill fast, having lost its mo when the terrible decision to stop the double-agent action was implemented. Fans of the La Femme Nikita have written that it too failed after 3 good seasons.

The current Nikita is very sharp and fun! Not as witty as Burn Notice or silly like Chuck (which is hitting that season 4/5 lifespan wall–will its quality survive if it does?), but good adventure.
