TV SHOWS COLUMNS FEATURES CHATS QUESTIONS

Was it just me, or was Casey Abrams doing “The Creep” on last night’s Idol?

When Casey Abrams slicked back his hair and started dancing on 'American Idol,' I instantly had an 'SNL' flashback.

Now that I don’t cover Idol anymore, I definitely don’t watch it religiously. However, I’ve watched enough of the current season to know that the guys are way better than the girls this year, and that I love the weird dudes with the beards. One of those weird dudes, the one with the bushiest beard of them all, is Casey Abrams.

Abrams has this weird unsexy/sexy thing going on that’s really been working for him so far in the competition. Plus, he’s got a growly, distinctive voice that is a breath of fresh air from your typical all runs and high notes Idol contestant. His rendition of “I Heard it Through the Grapevine” during last night’s Mowtown night wasn’t the greatest vocal I’ve ever heard, but it was probably my favorite performance for one reason: He looked like he was doing “The Creep.”

For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, “The Creep” it’s a Lonely Island song that was done as a digital short on a recent episode of SNL. When Casey Abrams was singing and kept on jerking his body toward the camera, that’s all I could think about and it completely cracked me up.

For reference, here is Abram’s performance on Idol:

And here’s the video for “The Creep”:

It’s kind of uncanny, isn’t it?
