I can’t like a comedy like this … can I?
I don’t go in for the fluffy stuff of this sort, but you know what? There’s quite a lot to like about New Girl.
It helps that Jess Day (Zooey Deschanel, (500) Days of Summer) isn’t precisely as she’s made out to be in the promos hocking New Girl. If she was, I wouldn’t have enjoyed watching the pilot of this vehicle. I tuned in to the premiere out of curiosity and got a bit of a surprise by enjoying it so much. While Deschanel shines in her lead roll, it’s the interaction with her three roomates Nick, Schmidt and Coach (Jake M. Johnson, Max Greenfield and Damon Wayans Jr., respectively) that caught my attention equally. (I understand Wayans is being replaced due to other commitments after the pilot episode.) Roll out the fifth wheel of the group — Cece (Hannah Simone), Jess’ best friend — and you have a well-rounded little comedy quintet going on here.
No … I don’t go in for this type of comedy. But I’m confident enough to state I was curious about it, acted on it and gave it a whirl. And I enjoyed getting caught up in the swirl of it for 22 minutes.
Anybody else looking forward to this beside me?

No, I didn’t watch, but based on your review I’ll surely give it a shot! :)
I have to admit the pilot surprised me. I expected the typical Fox sitcom with the guys serving as clueless one-dimensional characters. However, as the show progressed, it seemed as if Jess was more the comedy figure while the guys became more fleshed out. I’m sorry Wayans won’t stay as I liked his ‘Coach’ and the entire cast appeared to have a relaxed chemistry with each other.
