Mentalist – It’s time someone beefed up security

Really there are only a couple of main points I wanted to quickly mention regarding this episode. And, of course, they're Red John related.

- Season 4, Episode 2 - "Little Red Book"

First, let’s talk about Mrs. Carter. I said last week that I was pretty sure security would be beefed up around her, making sure she didn’t kill herself or allow someone else to kill her. Well, it didn’t take long for her to off herself … with a spoon! I was a bit taken aback that Jane didn’t throw a fit, as once again his plans to interrogate someone about Red John were foiled. Then again, he probably thought it was inevitable.

But, seriously … will someone fire that staff of security around there so someone sitting in a cell isn’t dead within 24 hours?

Secondly, it appears a big theme in this episode was pointing out — quite clearly — who Red John is not. I, for one, no longer have Bertram on my list of suspects at this point, especially after some of the goings-on in his office between himself and Jane. And then there’s Laroche. I used to think he was most certainly someone affiliated with Red John, but after that hug (and cue the plucky violin music) with Lisbon? Naaah!

Lastly, we got an old call-back to Rosalind Harker, who appeared in an episode two years ago (“Red John’s Footsteps“), to once again point out that Carter (Bradley Whitford) is not Red John. Not only did Whitford lovers get dissed by him not being Red John, but they witnessed his most recent acting gig as being that of a corpse.

So, what’s with the letter (pictured above) that, presumably, Mrs. Carter left? Any clues to be had there? What did Jane get out of it?

I thought the main plot of the episode worth comment as well. I loved the idea of Jane tearing the new team apart. Very amusing.

Damn … Almost like you’re a Whitford hater :P
