Grimm – Nick Burkhardt turns badass

Everyone "loses their head" in this episode of 'Grimm.' Monroe forgets his story, Eisbiber go off on uncharacteristic tangents and a couple Reapers ... well ...

- Season 1, Episode 19 - "Leave It To Beavers"

Well … that was a fun episode of Grimm.

The down and the dirty of it all was it was a kick to see the Reaper leader (if that’s who the white-haired man in Mannheim, Germany was) get a jolt at seeing his minions’ decapitated heads wrapped up nicely and neatly after being delivered pretty as a picture. That will set the rest of your evening on edge, guaranteed. It was the icing on the cake. Too bad Nick could only guess at the results of his actions. I think it’s safe to say he would have been pleased with the outcome.

So … here’s what we know going into the last few episodes of Grimm:

  • Nick’s now sent one heckuva an epistle to the monkey boys at Reaper Central of Europe, LLC with his little “Next time, send your best.” Short, sharp, shocked. I like it.
  • It appears Nick has taken to his Grimm implements of heritage rather nicely, eh?
  • Recall that I mentioned Nick “turned” the previous episode, revealing a new and improved (so to speak) Burkhardt badass. (Hokay … he’s not so much a “badass” … but right now the Reapers certainly think he is.
  • And whereas Nick had a conscious choice that previous episode to do or not do what he did (fake the murder of Verrat Edgar Waltz), this time it was necessary to commit to a message that would stand up and take notice. The shit’s comin’ down … and because it’s motoring along the pike to the inevitable big, huge confrontation, Nick’s actions were absolutely necessary. (And it’s a foregone conclusion Monroe’s instigation by “doubling down” in the Reaper head removal department helped nudge things along. He’s just as excited about the prospect of what’s to come as anyone. Doubt he’ll admit that, but you know it’s true.)

Notes:

  • More “Nick’s now a badass” proof: That comical little aside to Hasslich Salvadore Burtrell (David Zayas, Oz, Dexter) about the Reapers “losing their heads”
  • Wimpy as they may be, the Eisbibers have grown on me.
  • That little dinner engagement with Juliette, Nick and Monroe was dopey. Period.
  • I see a killer set-up coming down the line for the season finale. Mark my words.

Quotes:

“I met your friends.” — Nick to Sal Burtrell in jail
“What happened?” — Sal
“Oh … you know how it is. I got angry. They lost their heads …” — Nick
