Lost Girl goes all Freaky Friday

The Lost Girl gang ends up in the bar all at once, with no one else around, and I can see early on that this is going to be a bottle episode. Bottle episodes are often creative, though, and that’s the case here. Of course, once Woods shows up tracking an escaped Dark Fae mental patient named Raynard, no one can leave. Of course, chaos ensues, bodies get switched, and people’s issues get discussed.

The Gorgon blood in the the beer keg gives everyone the ability to change bodies. Raynard of course goes into Bo, whose spirit goes into Limbo and sees the little girl from a few episodes ago. She is known as the Nain Rouge, or Harbinger of Doom. The end of the Fae is coming, and Bo is destined to be the Fae Messiah. Now that she has told Trick about this, I hope he can help her to prevent or deal with whatever it is that is coming. Even Raynard senses some chaos is about to occur; all these dark hints make this seem like an old-school Buffy arc to me. There are worse shows for Lost Girl to model itself on.

I did not foresee everyone getting mixed up with each other, in this episode–nice! Bo and Woods; Kenzi and Dyson; Ciara and Hale. Or Lauren is really Dyson… or no, that is just Raynard pretending. The twist about the original body’s emotions and urges is interesting, and really underlines the idea that it is difficult to separate one’s identity from one’s physicality. This should be even more true for Fae, since each one has his or her own special powers.

Raynard-in-Lauren senses that her deepest desire is to kill The Ash. That of course could start a war, which Raynard is fine with since, as we are told more than once, he is an anarchist. After this point, the episode goes downhill a bit. Lauren as a gibbering psycho was a bit too much, and the capture of Raynard is kind of Deus ex Floor. And naturally Trick has some Fae mojo to fix the switched bodies. Then, at the very end, we find out that Lachlan has another head stored away — is this some kind of Dorian Gray situation, or what? I guess we have to stay tuned.

Notes and Quotes:

• Bo and Dyson are trying to be friends, which is fine if they can stick to it. Of course, Ciara shows up. Great, now everyone can work out their issues! Except that we haven’t seen enough of Dyson and Ciara’s issues to care! We do find out that Dyson feels empty since he was de-Bo’d, and I could have told you that. Ciara almost dies, but I don’t care much. We don’t see enough of her for that to seem high stakes.
• Lauren seems to get out as often as plot demands, considering she is a prisoner. She is still looking up the witch doctor, but there is no movement on that front this week.
• Do they have rednecks in Canada?
• Bo, when Kenzi suddenly wants to go out: “You got up at noon and took a two-hour nap!”
• Trick to a witch doctor-hunting Lauren: “Did you try Wikipedia?”
• Bo, when Dyson claims he and Bo were not really worth discussing: “Wait, what? Give me back my friendship beer!”
• Hale on the poisoned beer: “Could have been worse–could have ingested Trick’s creme de squid.” Kenzi: “That is NOT a thing?”
• Kenzi: “Hey guys, how would I know if the dude was inside me?” Hale: “Been a while?”
• Bo to the Harbinger: “Why would I trust the horror movie cliche that sent me to Hammer-geddon?”
• Trick, once everyone else is switched: “I’ll get the name tags!”
• Kenzi-in-Dyson: “I got the wolf junk!” And Hale feels Ciara’s boobs. They are so soulmates. And they get to kiss, sort of!
• Kenzi-in-Dyson, to Woods-in-Bo: “Nobody uses my bestie’s body without buying her a drink first!”
