Rookie Blue – Enjoy your anniversary shiv

First, my apologies for not chiming in with my thoughts on last week’s Rookie Blue. Sadly, my editor Keith dragged me to San Diego to attend some boring convention about popular culture and interview a bunch of folks from the world of television and film. But fret not, gentlereaders, I’ve returned from that “horrible servitude” to bring to you my thoughts on the latest Blue.

Unlike last week’s episode, whose story intertwined the personal life of Officer Shaw into the case of the week, “Leap of Faith” focused on the efforts of the 15^th to piece a case back together that fell apart when Collins let a suspect get kidnapped. We saw Collins finally taken off of probationary status last week, only to see him stumble now. It just goes to show Collins that this job isn’t always easy, and one always needs to display constant vigilance.

Speaking of things not being easy, Epstein continues to feel the aftershocks of his shooting earlier in the season. While Peck found out about his ongoing relationship with Crystal Markes, it is his recently-ignored girlfriend that was his focus this week. Considering the stress he has experienced following the shooting, it is tough to blame him for the way that he’s been acting, but Sue Tran deserves better. They’ve had a fun little dynamic; they could have been good for each other.

I’ve been picked on for liking the McNally/Swarek relationship as much as I do. There’s been legitimate criticism about their working relationship, and I think that’s worthy of a conversation – even though I’m solidly in the “oh, get over it” camp. But their personal relationship is where the real fun is. McNally’s dropping of the three words, the complete joy she exploded with and the whole not-needing of a response? She’s a pretty awesome lady.

More than I thought I would, I enjoyed the “psychic” that was helping the 15^th. He’s certainly no psychic detective, but I liked how he told everyone off in the end. No matter what Nash told Jerry in the end, I don’t believe they are getting married. They psychic told me so.
