Chuck – Will Morgan survive the Intersect?

Morgan with the Intersect is not a nice Morgan. Will he betray his friends and team up with Verbanski? Is Morgan as the Intersect salvageable?

- Season 5, Episode 3 - "Chuck Versus the Frosted Tips"

Morgan has finally lost it — frosted tips, Ed Hardy cologne and lifts, really? After last week’s episode, I speculated that Chuck was uniquely capable of handing the Intersect, but that’s not why Morgan went all crazy. Someone purposefully altered the Intersect to cause memory loss and an unstable personality … in Chuck.

Morgan inadvertently becoming the Intersect saved Chuck. Since Beckman didn’t leave the glasses for Chuck, who did? Is  Decker too obvious a choice? He clearly had a plan for Chuck, did he remove the Intersect with the primary goal of infecting Chuck with a faulty Intersect? Regardless, I’m intrigued by this mystery.

Asshole Morgan was a bit much to take, so I’m glad that he has been eradicated and a closer-to-normal Morgan is back. While Chuck and Sarah were quick to forgive him, Casey was not. I don’t blame him though. Morgan devastated his daughter. Since Morgan is generally such a sweet guy, I think he will be able to win her back and ultimately the cold-hearted Casey.

Casey is beginning to open up his heart. His tender moment with Alex shows he does have a heart, even though his response to the situation was to kill Morgan. I’m not sure if he has a romantic heart or not, yet. His relationship with Gertrude seems to be based more on primal lust and competition rather than on romance or love. That may be reserved for Alex’s mother.

Even though the episode was focused on Morgan, my favorite development was the cleaning up of Jeff. All this time, he was disoriented and crazy because of carbon monoxide — brilliant. Of course, the drugs and drinking didn’t help either, I’m sure. But, I can’t wait to see what happens with this new Jeff … next store manager?

In the end, Morgan remembered and got himself back, but he still has the Intersect. Will he be back to his fun self? And, does it even matter with the Kill Order out there for him. Carmichael Industries just got its most urgent case ever — protect Morgan!

Odds and Ends

  • Awesome and Clara together and busy for 45 minutes — Ha!
  • Loved the Matrix callback when Sarah was trying to tranq dart Morgan.
  • Chuck depantsed Morgan!
  • “You can keep the Intersect, Golum.” — Chuck
  • Zorn wanting to turn himself in rather than stay with the crazy people from Carmichael or Verbanski.
  • Casey and Verbanski with their odd foreplay in the office and then kissing on the roof.
  • Is Lester just crazy or has he been sleeping in the van too?
