Hell’s Kitchen – Death of a spoiler

As I sit here in my comfy blue chair, I'm thinking that some of you were quite surprised at the departure of a certain contestant on 'Hell's Kitchen' this week. I'm not.

- Season 10, Episode 10 - "11 Chefs Compete, Part 2"

I realize that last week, there was a spoiler alert on CliqueClack, calling out Patrick Cassata as the most probable winner of Hell’s Kitchen. I didn’t agree with it in the least.  Although I understand why it was printed, as an inside source for CliqueClack worked with Patrick and told us that he had announced his departure from his current position in favor of an “incredible opportunity.”

I told you not to pay too much attention to this rumor for several reasons. The first being that sometimes the finale is filmed live, and even Patrick himself would not know if he won at this point. The second being contractual obligations (which was mentioned as well by my fellow writer Debbie). Fox would have sued the chef jacket off of Patrick if he had gotten the notoriety from the show, and then prematurely made a move like that to tip off the outcome of the series.

Having said both of those aforementioned items? The third (and most important) reason that I knew Patrick would not advance to the Hell’s Kitchen finale is this: he ran out of chances. My Gordon simply could not have put more faith in him and believed in him any more without making himself look like a chump.

When we saw the backstory of Patrick crying and pleading and pledging to the photos of his children that he would not let them down? It was incredibly moving. The guy did want this very much. That doesn’t take away from the fact that he could not stand up to the challenge.

And by that I don’t mean the “pressure tests” at the beginning of each show. I mean the gauntlet that My Gordon threw down several episodes ago. When he demanded that someone steer the hapless blue team, and Patrick volunteered himself. Maybe it was like a lamb to the slaughter, but from that day on? Le Chef Hawt expected more from him. And I know you saw that the other guys just played along.

I wondered why that blue team laid down and played dead and said things like, “Patrick isn’t leading us right,” or somesuch. Um … why didn’t any of them step up? Maybe for the very reason that they were playing the game and saw this kind of thing coming.

Especially Justin. Who’s emerging as the dark horse now. Possibly he saw that if he sat back and did his thing? He could watch Patrick self destruct under the scrutiny.

Am I giving too much credence to this whole thing? Maybe.

But it’s Hell’s Kitchen and it’s my show to review. And frankly? I didn’t have anything else to do tonight.

Here’s a last thought which I’m sure you think too … what in the hell is up with Robyn and Kimmie and Tiffany?

How in the world do they think that their behavior in the kitchen and in the backstory and to Chef Ramsay’s face will get any of them this coveted prize?

Answer is … they’re not thinking.

But I hate them all so much that I hope they somehow bitch slap each other right out of this show, as soon as possible.

I’ve watched this show since the very beginning, and this honestly feels like the worst season yet. The personalities of the contestants are just getting worse and worse, and the elimination selection over the seasons has become so suspect to me. It just seems like the person that should be eliminated is always kept as long as they create enough drama. If Ramsey asks people whom they want eliminated, that person will definitely NOT be eliminated.

Patrick was an obvious choice for elimination, and it was kind of funny that they did that after all of the emotional build up with him. I guess that shows that personal drama doesn’t stand up to bickering drama, which the girls always seem to have plenty of.

I think I am just kind of getting to a point with the show that it’s reached its limit with me.

I’m glad Patrick doesn’t win this season, because I saw that headline with that picture (him in a black jacket) and I was pissed. So I’m glad we don’t know who wins. And if you ever think you have a spoiler again (maybe), for heaven’s sake don’t put the picture of the person on the front page.
